Fires & Effects 2024

Objective

The Fires & Effects conference, organized in cooperation with the Artillery of the Army of the Czech Republic (AČR) and the Czech and Slovak Artillery Community (ČaSOD), focused on introducing the latest technologies and strategies for modernizing Czech artillery in accordance with the Czech Army Development Concept 2035. A key goal was to integrate modern systems with other branches of the armed forces and strengthen collaboration between the AČR, academic institutions, and the private sector. Based on the success of its first edition, the second edition of the conference was held over two days.

Program

This two-day event offered a diverse array of lectures, practical demonstrations, and workshops. Participants were introduced to current and cutting-edge weapon systems that could have a decisive impact on the future of artillery equipment. Speakers included military strategists, representatives of the defense and security industry, and academics, who shared their experiences, visions, and concrete solutions for more effective and sophisticated artillery. The workshops also provided hands-on demonstrations of new technologies and their potential deployment in various scenarios.

The successful continuation of Fires & Effects confirmed its important role in shaping the future of Czech artillery. Participants welcomed the opportunity to share best practices and innovations, while highlighting the need for deeper cooperation among the Armed Forces of Czech Republic, academia, and the private sector. The conference facilitated the initiation of at least three new consortia and led to the submission of four research and development projects in response to various calls for proposals. One company expressed interest in collaborating to recruit young employees or recent graduates, while two other branches of the Czech Army showed interest in organizing similar types of conferences. The presented contributions also inspired the development of materials for Armed forces strategic documents, specifically focused on the use of UAVs/UAS. Ultimately, the conference contributed to a collective discussion and coordination of steps aimed at modernizing and increasing the effectiveness of artillery in line with the Czech Army Development Concept 2035.
